Harry Potter's England & Wales
Whatever your age,
this tour for film and book enthusiasts combines visits to film locations
with some of the UK's classic attractions. See mediaeval villages, historic
cities, a fairytale castle, a prehistoric stone temple, stunning scenery
and wonderful architecture. An 'activity-based tour' for families, there's
a steam train ride, castle exploring, woodland walking and family competitions.
Our tour also introduces youngsters to famed writers such as C.S Lewis,
Lewis Carroll and Ronald Dahl.. a perfect voyage of discovery and a
great way to build on the Harry Potter experience.
Itinerary:
Day 1 (Wed) London - Cotswolds
Begin your magical journey by visiting the new
Roald Dahl Museum to find the inspiration behind 'Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory' and 'The BFG'. At Oxford, home of Britain's oldest
university, climb the stairs of 'Hogwarts', see the infirmary, library
and where Harry met Tom Riddle! Visit Christ Church College dining
hall, the 'model' for Hogwarts Hall plus amazing museum of eclectic
oddities. On our 'Alice in Wonderland' walk, see where Alice entered
the door into Wonderland, find a dodo and discover Lewis Carroll's
inspiration for the Mad Hatter tea parties. Overnight in a Cotswolds
village.
Day 2 (Thu) Cotswolds - near Gloucester
Travel through the delightful Cotswolds region
of stone villages, Tolkein's inspiration for the 'The Shire' in the
Hobbit. Visit a magical stone circle and hear the legend of the Witch,
King and Fairies who live underground. Meet Harry's feathered friends
at a flying display of birds of prey. Take a 'Hogwarts Express' style
steam train through the countryside to Cheltenham. Last visit of
the day is the Old City of Gloucester, immortalised by Beatrix
Potter in 'The Tailor of Gloucester',
visit
the cathedral
and follow a Harry Potter trail around its cloisters. Overnight near
Gloucester.
Day 3 (Fri) Near Gloucester - London
Venture into the Forest of Dean and the Wye
Valley, well-known to J.K, Rowling. Maybe take a stroll into the
forest looking for Fairies and Unicorns. Drive into Wales and hear
stories of Dragons and Merlin the Magician, then explore the fairytale
Chepstow Castle. At the mediaeval village of Lacock, used in the
Harry Potter films, see the house where Harry's parents were murdered
and the street used as 'Privet Drive'.

Note:
Depending on time of year, certain attractions may not be available (i.e. steam trains), so substitutes will be offered. Christ Church Hall is occasionally closed for College Events and may not be visited.
A pre-tour passenger pick-up charge of approx.
$30 per party applies when London accommodation is other than a hotel nominated
by Back Roads Touring
and a higher charge applies if your hotel is located outside central London.
All passengers are returned to their central London hotel after each tour.
